The Languages and Literatures Cluster (Lang Lit for short) provides advising for 10 majors in Sproul Hall, including the Comparative Literature major.
Orientation Steps: Getting Ready For Fall Quarter
STEP 1: Aggie 101 (June 4 - July 15)
Aggie 101 is an online experience that should take you approximately 1-2 hours to complete. By completing Aggie 101 you will:
- Be introduced to resources for your academic, personal, and social growth
- Know resources that can help meet your basic needs at UC Davis
- Understand the academic policies, requirements, and tools necessary for academic planning
- Identify ways you can build your community on campus
Students admitted for Fall Quarter will access Aggie 101 through their MyAdmissions checklist.
You must complete Aggie 101 before moving on to Aggie Advising. You will be unable to access Aggie 101 until you have created your UC Davis email account. For specific dates, see the Orientation Dates and Deadlines page.
STEP 2: Aggie Advising
Aggie Advising through Canvas (opens June 11)
Learn how to select courses, build and balance your schedule, and start satisfying the requirements you’ll need to graduate. You’ll find resources and tips to help you navigate the university, explore your interests, and ensure your first quarter is a success. More information, including log-in directions, will be provided to your UCD email.
Attend a "Preparing for Pass 1" Webinar
These webinars offered by the Orientation office, are mandatory and are designed around your college and student type (first-year or transfer).
Webinar registration directions will be send to your UC Davis email. In the email, you'll see multiple dates/times for this webinar. You only need to attend ONE session. Make sure you choose the correct college and RSVP once you receive that email, seats will fill up quickly.
Webinars will be hosted by current students and will demonstrate how to effectively use Schedule Builder, the online tool that you will use to register for courses here at UC Davis. A panel of student will share insights in building a balanced schedule and maximizing your time outside of classes.
Attend an Advising Appointment (opens July 1)
The advising appointment system is where you will go to make appointments with your major advisor to discuss academics, course scheduling, career planning, major requirements, along with any other questions and how to navigate campus life and resources.
College of Letters & Science Dean's Office advising can answer questions regarding college requirements and general education questions; make an appointment here.
STEP 3: Registration
- Students register for classes using Schedule Builder.
- After you’ve planned out your first quarter, you should have everything you need to register for classes.
- College of Letters & Science has a comprehensive resource with addition information about registration.
- Pass times; look at your UC Davis email for your specific day and time
- August 12 and 13
- August 14-16: Open Registration for all new students
STEP 4: Aggie Orientation
- Aggie Orientation will take place September 16 and 17
- Meet your academic advisor in-person Thursday, September 17 at 2:45pm
- Meet other majors and LangLit cluster major students
STEP 5: Start your first quarter!
Instruction begins on Wednesday, September 23! You'll do great!
