Sheldon Lu Presents Lecture Series in Taiwan and China

From late May to mid-June, 2026, Sheldon Lu conducted research and gave a series of lectures in Taipei, Taiwan, and several cities in China.  He gave a keynote speech at the international conference “Celluloid Fabulation and Trans-Eat Asian Life” jointly organized by National Taiwan University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taipei, Taiwan. He also gave lectures at Academia Sinica and Soochow University in Taipei.  Then he traveled from Taiwan to China and gave multiple lectures at several universities in four cities: Xi’an, Yan’an (headquarter of the Chinese revolution in the 1930s-40s), Beijing, and Tianjin.  He gave lectures at Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest University (Xi’an), Xi’an University of Science and Technology, Yan’an University, Renmin University, and Nankai University.  His lectures include such topics: overseas Yan’an studies in recent years; translation of classical Chinese poetry into English; methodology of comparative literary studies between China and the West; Chinese film studies and world cinema studies.  He was featured at the book signing event of his newly translated book from English into Chinese at Renmin University: “Contemporary Chinese Cinema and Visual Culture: Envisioning the Nation” (Bloomsbury Academic 2021, Chinese translation 2025).
