The Department of Comparative Literature is happy to announce various items of news concerning our students and faculty.
We celebrated several of our students for their accomplishments at our end-of-year reception (our first in-person gathering for this purpose since 2019!) on the last day of spring quarter. The following undergraduate majors in Comparative Literature received their Bachelor’s degrees this year: Virginia Parra; Noah Benham; Abigail Chesson; Cyan Mcmillan; Josune Menendez; Alex Nguyen. Of these students, Abigail Chesson was awarded a Citation for Outstanding Performance in the major; and Josune Menendez and Alex Nguyen both received Departmental Citations. Josune and Alex also graduated with honors in recognition of their overall academic performance. Kudos to our majors!
At the reception we acknowledged several graduate students as well. Three of our graduate students attained their Master’s degrees in 2022: Nimra Farooq; Shu Liu; and Nia Shy. Nicholas Talbott was awarded his doctorate this year. Heartiest congratulations to all on these accomplishments!
We singled out Agueda Berlot, our junior major, for special recognition for her service as our Peer Advisor this year. We are delighted that Agueda has agreed to serve again in the coming year.
COM 3 student Rachael McCune received the Amy Lee prize for her paper, “Familiarity that Is Lost in Translation.” Congratulations to Rachael and her instructor, Ross Hernandez.
And the good news just keeps coming! We are delighted to announce that Tianyun Hua, Kyle Proehl, and Xuesong Shao have each received a Letters and Science Dean’s Graduate Summer Fellowship Award. Additionally, Manasvin Rajagopalan has received a graduate fellowship from the UC Davis Humanities Program. Kudos to all!
Timothy Parrish was recognized by the University Honors Program as its Outstanding Faculty Member for 2021-22. Great work, Tim! Further, we're very pleased to announce Tim has agreed to continue to serve as our Director of Undergraduate Study in 2022-23.
Finally, we want to acknowledge the dedication, commitment, and hard work of our outgoing Director of Graduate Study, Joshua Clover. Joshua will be ending his term as DGS at the end of June. He is handing over the reins to our new DGS, Michael Subialka. Thank you Joshua for all you have contributed in this challenging role. Welcome aboard, Michael!
