Introduction
He began his college career in fisheries biology, but later changed
his field of study to German language and literature and wrote a
dissertation on "The Revision of Wilderness in Friedrich Hölderlin's
Late Poetry." He teaches a variety of courses for Comparative
Literature, and co-teaches two Nature and Culture courses. His
publications include articles on the 18th-c. German poet Friedrich
Hölderlin as well as on modern literary figures Gary Snyder and Norman
Maclean, and he is a published poet himself.He is the editor of
The Real Work, and a collection of interviews and talks with
Gary Snyder, and of a book on Rock-&-Roll and poetry, Chasing A Song, and three books of poetry.
